Meet Jessika Gatewood of Gatewood Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessika Gatewood

Hi Jessika, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had an eye for design, even as a child. I was the one rearranging furniture, picking out paint colors, and imagining how spaces could be transformed. After high school, I found myself like many others—wondering what career path to take and convinced that success in design meant moving to a big city. But what I didn’t realize at the time is that you can find success anywhere.

It wasn’t until my husband and I bought our first home that I truly began to explore and hone my design skills. As we tackled renovations, I found joy in making our house feel like a home, pouring my creativity into every detail. Each project taught me something new, but the real turning point came when we built our first home from the ground up. During that process, I realized my passion for new construction design.

There’s something so special about taking an idea, a blueprint, and watching it evolve through every phase of construction to the final install! It was during this process that professionals in the building industry began to notice my work, encouraging me to pursue this passion on a larger scale. They saw what I hadn’t fully realized yet—that I had a unique talent, and this could be more than just a personal project.

Over the next few days, with the support of my husband and a newfound sense of purpose, we made the decision to jump in headfirst and launch Gatewood Designs. It wasn’t just about starting a business; it was about turning a lifelong passion into something real, something that could bring joy to others by transforming their homes into beautiful, functional spaces.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been an incredibly rewarding journey, and while there have been a few small bumps along the way, I truly feel that God has placed me on this path for a reason. Every challenge we’ve faced has been a stepping stone, not a roadblock. Each project, each opportunity, has given us confirmation that we are exactly where we’re meant to be. I believe when you’re aligned with your purpose, the road may not always be perfectly smooth, but the destination is clear, and we continue to feel a sense of peace and reassurance that we’re on the right path God has laid out for us.

We’ve been impressed with Gatewood Designs, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
our style is rooted in modern, and approachable aesthetics with a focus on organic touches, However, we pride ourselves on not being confined to a single design style. Our focus is on the client, and we believe in crafting spaces that reflect their unique vision while staying true to our signature design approach. Trends come and go, and while our designs are distinct and recognizable as ours, we always keep our client’s needs front and center.

We specialize in full-service new construction, handling every detail from concept to completion. What sets us apart is our commitment not just to the final design but to the entire process. We believe that the journey should be as enjoyable and seamless as the finished product. Our process is something we’re incredibly proud of. We believe that the process should be just as good as the finished design.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I truly look to God for guidance in both my personal and professional life. My faith has been a constant source of direction and reassurance as I navigate the challenges and rewards of running a business. I also believe that we are never done learning, and that mindset drives me to continually seek out new knowledge and growth.

I listen to a variety of podcasts, many focused on design, business, and personal development. I find that these help me stay inspired and up to date with industry trends. I’m actively involved in ongoing design and business coaching, which has been invaluable in helping me refine my skills and push the boundaries of what I can offer to my clients.

I’m always looking for ways to expand my knowledge—whether through coaching, podcasts, or just staying curious—and I believe that constant learning is key to success in both life and business.
