Traditional-looking kitchens are having a major moment these days, and if you're looking to embrace Grandma's kitchen aesthetic in your 21st-century abode, you certainly can! Interior designer Jessika Gatewood, the founder of Gatewood Designs, walks us through some of her favorite granny-inspired kitchen accessories that can't be missed.

Butter Crocks

These days, we can keep butter stored in the refrigerator, but back when, cooks relied on crocks to keep butter nice and fresh, Gatewood explains. "With today’s love for creamy, spreadable butter, these vintage gems are making a well-deserved comeback," she says.

Cast-Iron Skillets

Cast-iron skillets are known for being top quality and standing the test of time. Don't forget to scoop up one or two of your own (or "borrow" one from Nana herself) if you haven't done so already. "Passed down through generations, these skillets only get better with time, making them one of the most cherished kitchen heirlooms," Gatewood says.

Antique Recipe Boxes

How cute would a pretty antique recipe box look sitting on your kitchen's open shelving or styled on the counter? "Before Pinterest, family recipes were lovingly handwritten on index cards and tucked into wooden recipe boxes," Gatewood says. "These little time capsules carry generations of flavors, traditions, and heartfelt memories."

Vintage Stoneware Mixing Bowls

Why opt for stainless steel everything when you can instead opt for mixing bowls with character? "Sturdy, beautiful, and full of history, these heavy stoneware bowls were built to last," Gatewood says. "Whether in creamy neutrals or classic blue stripes, they’re a staple worth rediscovering."

China Hutches

The next time you're scouring Facebook Marketplace or visiting an antique store, keep your eyes peeled for a classic china hutch. "In Grandma’s day, a beautiful china hutch showcased heirloom dishes and delicate glassware," Gatewood says. "Today, they’re being revived as statement pieces in kitchens, dining rooms, and even pantries." Whether you use yours as Nana did or turn it into a bar cart of sorts, you can't go wrong!
